On the 11 ^th of May 2016, the Hindu Forum of Belgium met with Meyrem Almaci, the chairwomen of the Flemish Green Party. Meyrem Almaci was accompanied by Gijs Ory, a policy adviser for the Green Party. Volunteer Markus Fobelets was the representative on behalf of the Hindu Forum of Belgium.

It was a positive and constructive meeting. We talked about the Hindu Forum, what we do, how many members we have, how much Hindus there are, etc.. .

We also talked about the process of official recognition of Hinduism in Belgium and possible subsidies. Meyrem was aware that the official recognition of Hinduism in Belgium is still ongoing.

During the meeting Meyrem said it would be good that the Hindu Forum of Belgium get a temporary subsidy until the official recognition is completed. Then, the Hindu Forum could further enhance their services. This may speed up the recognition of Hinduism.

The Green Party proposed – in collaboration of the Hindu Forum- to submit an official question in the parliamentary commission of justice on the topic.

Furthermore, both Meyrem and Gijs said they would be most happy to work together on this topic in the future.

Op maandag 11 mei 2016, had het Hindoe Forum van België een ontmoeting met Meyrem Almaci, de voorzitster van de Vlaamse politieke partij Groen. Meyrem was vergezeld door Gijs Ory, lid van de studiedienst van de partij. Vrijwilliger Markus Fobelets, was de vertegenwoordiger van het Hindoe Forum van België.

Het was een positieve en opbouwende ontmoeting. We hebben gepraat over het Hindoe Forum. Wat we doen, hoeveel leden we hebben, hoeveel hindoes er zijn, … .

We hebben ook gepraat over het proces van de officiële erkenning van het hindoeïsme in België en een eventuele gedeeltelijke subsidie. Meyrem was er van op de hoogte dat het dossier ingediend was en lopende is.

Tijdens de vergadering zei Meyrem dat het goed zou zijn dat het Hindoe Forum een gedeeltelijke subsidie zouden krijgen tot onze erkenning is afgerond. Hierdoor kunnen ze hun werking verder uitbouwen en zou het proces van erkenning kunnen versnellen.

Groen heeft voorgesteld dat ze – in samenwerking met het Hindoeforum- een geschreven vraag willen indienen in een parlementaire commissie, als we dit zouden willen. 

Zowel Meyrem Almaci als Gijs Ory zeiden dat ze in de toekomst zeker nog willen werken rond dit dossier.
