Ratan Barua a campaigner for Bangladeshi Minority Rights dies in New York

Hindu Forum Europe • April 4, 2014

Ratan Barua, was Chairman of the Bangladeshi Hindu Buddhist and Christian Unity Council in the USA. He was passionate about the issue and in November 2013 the group organised a conference highlighting the rise in violence the minorities may face in the wake of the  approaching General Election in Bangladesh. Ms Tailor president of Hindu Forum of Europe was present at the event and said “I met Ratanji, when I attended the BHBCUC New York conference in November last year. Though desperately ill, he addressed the gathering and his passion for life was clearly visible.Though not well enough for a personal meeting, he spared time for a long phone conversation which was very rewarding. It is sad to hear of the passing of such a lovely man of vast experience and deep friendships.

It is a great loss to the community also. My condolences to family and friends, my sympathies to fellow campaigners.”

Ratan died on the 1st of April. His funeral will include prayes from all the groups that he worked with, Christian, Hindu, Muslim and his own faith tradition, Buddhism.
