Safety and Security Briefing for Religious Leaders & Local laces of Worship
at New Scotland Yard
On Thursday 8 October Ms Tailor attended the Safety and Security
Briefing for Religious Leaders & Local places of Worship organised by
the London Boroughs Network. Ms Tailor was asked to give the Opening
remarks from the Hindu Perspective. Ms Tailor spoke of her experience
of being on a Temple committee in the 1990 when the Temple committee
was in session when a missile was thrown at a window which shattered
around the committee members. It led to the Temple replacing widows
with other material and not glass.
She also spoke of colleagues telling her of earlier times when against
the threat of attack the only defence was a Buckets of sand and a hose
pipe fitted to the kitchen tap!!
Bringing the conversation to the present Ms Tailor mentioned the arson
at the Adhyashakti Mataji Mandir in Uxbridge in 2013.
Ms Tailor ended her presentation by saying that safety is always an
issue to take seriously and she looked forward to the learning in the
session today.
Other Hindus present at the event were
Sonoo Malkani who was there with her Harrow Community Safety Brief
The Ganapaty Temple at Wimbledon and the Caribbean Hindu Temple sent
representatives.
The Metropolitan Police offered Train the Trainer on Safety issues,
which most communities readily accepted as the Safety and Security is
a duty of the Trustees of places of worship in the UK and they are
liable if they fail in this duty.
There will be follow ups where we hope more Hindu Temples are engaged.
